Ultimate recognition of our Sport.
- To maintain an even playing field for all practitioners. For instance, so one blue belt is the same as the next... (not being pummelled in a tournament due to differing standards).
- With sport being becoming increasingly regulated by the government we feel it’s important that Grapplers look after grappling -
not other disciplines. For instance, we welcome our Judo and Wrestling
cousins into our competitions, dojo’s and clubs, but feel it’s more
appropriate the we look after our systems ourselves.
- Provide a connection to the sport's talents, developments and success of Europe, the US and of course Brazil.
- Provide safety for our children. More and more children are going into BJJ and Grappling. This requires a very different skill set, training, understanding and awareness than for teaching adults.
-
Provide safety for you (1). * Shockingly many BJJ and Grappling instructors are NOT insured. This gives you little recourse if you have an injury. Insist to see your instructors certificate displayed or just ask are they insured to teach you. This is not just for your safety.. but also helps towards knowing if you’re getting the best standards of teaching. Look for their certificate displayed.
- Provide safety for you.(2) * If you are grappling against someone who’s not insured, it’s like crashing into someone who’s car is not insured. Bye bye car. Make sure who you grapple with is safe.
- Most Grappling and BJJ clubs do not qualify for grants and subsidies. Because our sport is not recognised by a government body, club owners can not qualify for grants. Running a club can be a labour of love - it’s nice to be able to recognise this financially. We’re trying to get this happening and get money for club owners.
- Tournament organisers do not get the benefits of free hire of venues that other organisations recognised by Sport UK do. The GAA is aiming to get Grappling recognised. So our tournaments can be cheaper.
- Relevant Insurance: As grappling is a mixed martial art and attracts many practitioners of other arts, so for some, insurance can be confusing. We have set up a package that covers your mix of martial arts - of course core to this is Submission Grappling and BJJ.
- Mixing Martial Arts is what we're about .. But Mixing your insurances is not. Most BJJ / Grappling clubs themselves are not insured or they allow a
mix of insurances on the mat as they thinks that keeps them save. However if a club is not insured with one association - mixing insurnces makes
everyone's insurance void. It only takes one and the club is
automatically void for cover. Check your club belongs to the GAA.
- A route to representing your country.
- To help promote your tournaments through our calender.
- Discounted rates off certain GAA tournaments.
- Negotiate discounts in other tournaments, assist in travel to events, clubs. Individually it’s difficult to achieve desires, but together we are a force.
- Provide access to greater support, channel for appropriate legal advise for instance. As many of our members have an interest in MMA, we want to be able in the future guide them to appropriate organisations where contracts support their career not hinder.
- Provide a positive environment and growth for female interested grapplers.
- Combat bogus belts: We’ve had a number of calls saying “I’ve got this belt from xyz - but he does not seem to feature much outside our club: *The GAA is aiming to establish an instructor, club and belt registration. You need to be able to verify legitimate belts so as to keep the standard of teaching strong, fun and safe.
- Your suggestions. We want them on this list.
